The Ouachita Parish Mosquito Abatement District No. 1 will enhance the public health by reducing the risk of mosquito-borne diseases and when deemed necessary by the board, other arthropod-borne diseases. The district will reach out to the public by all means possible to provide public service information.

Some mosquitoes travel long distances, but the ones which carry West Nile virus usually don't travel more than one-half mile from their breeding site!

The mosquito life cycle revolves around water. The best way to help control mosquito's is to remove as many possible breeding sites as you can from around your home (buckets, bird baths or any containers holding stagnant water).
Poorly treated wastewater is an important breeding site of the Southern House mosquito, the main vector of West Nile virus in Louisiana.
